what's wrong with yes?

At dinner tonight I learned that the rather generous parents (not mine) have made an offer. Here's the deal. They have a unit in this building, a two bedroom, less than 7 floors below us.

The current tenant's lease is about to expire and they have reported through the broker (bites tongue) that if they renew, they want a reduction in their rent. (Last time I checked this was still the Bay Area; that took some gumption, and I suspect has a little to do with this offer.) It is a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath that was once the model unit. It also has views of the Bay, although our view is slightly nicer.

Here's the deal. Dad says if you don't like it leave and we move downstairs.

Okay, so that would make move 26. But it would give us close to another 300 square feet. The layout is nicer. It has a galley kitchen, and did I mention an extra half bath?

I could probably take down the wallpaper. It's about time. We might even have enough flooring left to change out the kitchen or at least the half bath.

Whoa!

Do you realize what you are saying? Technically it wouldn't be your house you were living in anymore. Remember this was the first offer made so many years ago. What do they want?

But what if I let my suspicions go? What if I just said yes, and thank you?
