the moving/birth analogy
I am really starting to think that moving is like giving birth (even though I can't talk from first-hand experience). Here is why:
1. Like birth, moving (especially out of state) is a life changing event.
2. Like birth, it is very hard work.
3. Like birth, there becomes a distance between friends/family (as the baby/move) takes all our focus.
4. They both also tend to show you who your true friends are.
5. There is anticipation with both.
6. There is also adjustment with both.
7. When you have a baby there are all these new things to deal with that sometimes lead to a feeling of "lost"; same is true as you try to navigate your new home (whether it be the location of a light switch or the local grocery store).
8. Both are expensive.
9. Both require sending out announcements.
10. And somewhere in the midst of it all we adjust and forget about all the pain (and thus why we have siblings and most of us don't live in the same house forever).
1 Comments:
I'm not sure if this is a recent comment or something from the past. It's beautiful and so true. I can't express how hard it is to move, but you've seem to capture exactly how I feel.
I'm moving for the second time this month and after only being in this apartment for less than 2 months. Never move in with a single straight man is what everyone told me...I didn't listen...
