had a ball at the ball
I could have danced all night, when in reality I didn’t dance at all – unless of course you count when I danced with the wolfish (he really liked to boogie, so how could I resist?). The semi-formal at the Shedd Aquarium was absolutely amazing, as was my date.
B thought I wanted to get there fashionably late (being from California and all), so it felt like we were two steps behind the entire evening. The GSB had the entire aquarium and the plan was to move us throughout as the night and the party progressed. As a result it would seem like we would finally find ourselves face to face with some marine life, only to be told it was time to move along.
We did see some cow-faced rays (they sort of look like cows if you view them head on). They could move amazingly fast. They were very playful and it felt like we were keeping them up way past their bedtime.
I decided to stand out in what seemed like a sea of black and wore my pink flowered dress. Someone commented that it did seem like everyone was wearing black (herself included), and that it was nice to see a little color in the crowd.
Hands down the best food there was the mashed potato bar. You were presented with a scoop of Yukon Gold mashed potatoes and a scoop of sweet potatoes in a lovely martini glass. There were toppings from bacon to pecans for those who wished to indulge. How can you go wrong with mashed potatoes (unless of course they came from a box)? There was also a dessert table that included chocolate-covered strawberry trees – also very impressive.
Throughout the evening B introduced me to many of his classmates. I am terrible with names though. I did learn from one of them that B managed to literally woo one of the presenters the day before. In addition to his day job, the presenter also writes a tech column for the Chicago Sun Times. They talked gadgets, gadgets, and more gadgets before the presentation and essentially this guy was smitten with B. Apparently he told those in attendance as much. A celebrity before classes even officially begin – you gotta love B. Well, I do.
