tidbits of my day

glimpsing

I decided I needed to get out of the apartment. It is Thursday and I needed green onions (I am making potato salad and a tofu dish), so I went over to the Farmer's Market. I am glad that despite living in a big city there are still traces of the simple things.

The city is really beautiful right now. They planted thousands of flowers in late spring, and they are all in full bloom. I think they were going for patriotic theme as there are lots of red, white and blue petals about.

I decided to stop by the cow out in front of the Chicago Cultural Center. Poor dear, there were three little kids climbing on her back. She did not look very happy at all. There was also this woman dressed in all white. I don't know what her story was. She was still there when I came back. Odd.

As I was waiting for the light to change at Wabash, one person in a group of three announced, "there's a McDonald's". Another responded with, "great, let's go". And the three of them headed over to the golden arches. My heart sank. Why would adults choose to eat there? There is so much amazing food in this city. But let's move on.

I then found myself in front of Marshall Fields. There were two women with a stroller. The one woman passed the cell phone to the other as she began explaining where she was to the person on the line. Not sure what was going on there.

I crossed the street and found myself behind a woman in a plaid business suit and pantyhose! I couldn't help but think of this week's Six Feet Under and Claire's ode to pantyhose. I felt bad for this woman -- it is really muggy today. I bet she has a bathroom pass, although I am still not sure what that is.

At last I found myself in front of the Picasso statue and the Farmer's Market. Things were starting to wind down. Didn't find any green onions, but I did get a brownie.

There was a honey seller that had a live bee hive on display. The guy selling the gladiolas gushed over a customer saying she was holding the flowers like a bride. It was sweet. No nectarines either. Lots of zucchini. Many were pretty big. Also pickling cucumbers. I was tempted. Can you believe there isn't a single pickle in this house, and hasn't been for weeks!!

I headed back home and stopped at the park. I was hoping to see my butterfly friend again, but no luck. There were several small white butterflies, but they were quite the flutter bugs, and never seemed to land.

I snapped a few shots and stopped at the store in our building to get green onions. There aren't as nice as the ones I have gotten from previous market days, but they will do.
