housekeeping

setting the table

Last week I was dealing with a pretty nasty summer cold. If I wasn't sneezing, I was coughing. And if I wasn't doing either, I was trying to take in liquids, which had consequences of its own. As a result, I didn't get much sleep between Sunday and Thursday, so I am a little behind. It seems I have been tagged a couple of times.

This one is from Rope Dancer:

10 Years Ago Today (08/02/95): I was in the Bay Area. I think we were in packing mode, about to take possession of the condo in September. I was working for a large HMO, in their mental health division, taking complaints from members. In my spare time I answered a crisis hotline. I was excited about the release of Toy Story (so much so that when I finally went to see it, I would forget that I had a shift and have to leave B in the theater and walk home). [Can you believe it has been 10 years?] My Mom was still alive, living in LA, slowly watching the bottom fall out.

Five Years Ago Today (08/02/00): I was in Austin, Texas. I had been with the company (an Internet startup) for about a year, and would stay/survive for another year (along with B) before we went under. The rocky times were just beginning. I want to say we actually contemplated moving, but opted not to. My Mom had been gone for a little over a year. I had been engaged for almost a year and a half, but still no wedding plans.

1 Year Ago Today (08/02/04): We were on our way to Chicago. I believe we started the day in Nevada, drove through Utah (stopping in Salt Lake City for lunch after being caught in a bit of a sand storm). We called it a day in Wyoming. We stayed at the same hotel (as we did when we drove to Chicago fo Admit Weekend) as they had WIFI and were across the street from this hole in the wall that served pretty good food.

Yesterday (08/01/05): I went to the post office and cashed in one of my last free ice cream certificates. Made corn chowder for dinner. Hand-washed B's work pants. Received a lovely purse made of zippers from Ellen.

Tomorrow (08/03/05): More of the same, if I am lucky.

5 Snacks I enjoy: tea, iced lemon loaf, cupcakes, granny smith apples, and chocolate, especially dark.

5 Bands That I Know the Lyrics to Most of Their Songs: I am terrible with song lyrics.

5 Things I Would Do with a $100,000,000: Pay off debt, put a down payment on a home, take a vacation, throw a party, and adopt a dog.

5 Locations I Would Like to Run Away to: London, Florence, Nantucket, Austin, and Balboa Island.

5 Bad Habits I Have: procrastination, caring too much about what others think, not standing up for myself, not believing in myself, and letting fear get the best of me.

5 Things I Like Doing: cook, entertain, shop, blog, & read.

5 Things I would Never Wear: a tie, men's underwear, ugly shoes, tube socks, and big earrings.

5 TV Shows I Like(d): Six Feet Under, Soap, The Sopranos, ER, and Dead Like Me.

5 Movies I Like: The Incredibles, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Toy Story, A Fish Called Wanda, and Sophie's Choice.

5 Famous People I would Like to Meet: Martha Stewart, John Lasseter, John Cusack, Gary Oldman, and Steve Jobs.

5 Biggest Joys at the Moment: summer in Chicago, fresh fruit from Farmer's Markets, music, chocolate, and of course, B.

5 favorite toys: my iBook, my shuffle, my Cuisinart, my KitchenAid mixer, and my camera.

5 People to Tag: If you read this far, consider yourself tagged.
