saturday morning plans
So the plan was to meet B after his Saturday morning class and grab a quick bite to eat. I had passed by this Chinese restaurant while trying to find the hotel where his sister had stay when she visited, and we decided to try it. Big disappointment.
They were serving Dim Sum, which you had to order instead of picking dishes as pushy ladies with carts came by. Usually that is always a bad sign, but this time it should have served as a warning. The shu mei were disgusting. We didn't even finish them, they were that awful. I don't think we have ever left a shu mei on the table.
The fortunes were good. Something about me getting what I want. Hmmmm. Still it didn't make up for the terrible lunch.
Thusly, to make up for that experience we decided to hop on the Red Line, transfer at Fullerton, and exit at Southport. Yup, we ended up at Julius Mienl again. This time, just for dessert.
In the week that had passed, they had their patio open as did several other restaurants in the area. It was still a bit chilly, and there was a wait, so we decided to grab a table inside.
This time we tried a chocolate layer cake. It was so good. The frosting wasn't overly sweet, yet the perfect mix of thick and creamy. It went well with my pot of tea.
We browsed a couple of stores in the neighborhood before catching the train back. Amazingly we were good and passed up the amazing cupcakes at Southport.
