notes from the management

my hood

Today we received our official "eviction notice". Apparently our unit is included in the "Development Plans" of the building. Given the current state of our hallways, I can only imagine the quality of the workmanship.

The letter was mailed, but didn't have our names on it. It was addressed simply to "Resident(s)". How much more unprofessional can you get? I don't want to tell you how much money we have forked over to these incompetent boobs, but this letter is the icing on the cake. Mail merge is not hard - your average 8th grader can master it.

After announcing that our lease is not being renewed, and explaining that we must make arrangements to be out by 10am on the 31st of July, it adds that we could stay if we like. They are offering $250 as an incentive for doing so, plus $75 for the phone line (which we don't have). The tone comes off as an afterthought, like an 'oh, by the way.' It is disgusting.

You don't treat good tenants like this. They are hard to come by. And I am sure slowly but surely these idiots will come to realize this.

I don't think I have mentioned but they have been redoing the hallways for several months now. They have hired one guy, and given him a roller brush on a long handle. I am not kidding. He has finally made it to our floor, but only done the primer coat (over the wallpaper, no less). As you can imagine he missed several spots with his roller. It looks like they let a couple of 12-year olds loose. It is so hard not to go out there and finger paint or something.

But as much as I complain, I wish we had more options, a safety net to speak of. I really would prefer not to put all of our stuff in storage. I don't know that I have that extra step in me, especially that we finally acquired real furniture during our time in Chicago.
