This is it. The last week of classes. How ironic that it starts with a holiday? So technically classes were not in session today, and I believe the Hyde Park Center may have been closed too.
The goal is to finish up the graduation announcements - we are now 13 days away from the BIG DAY. Between now and then, the parental unit arrives, the TRIPLE baby shower occurs, my digital photography class begins, the big book fair comes to town, and of course, Celebration 2006. That is all out of order, by the way.
But back to the graduation announcements. I wanted to keep things simple. So much for that. I had to go to two stores to get double sided tape. Apparently they sell a tape just for vellum, but as after two stores I couldn't find any, I opted for the permanent kind. Also the vellum has proven to be an interesting choice. The paper says it is made for laser printers, but it seems to be extremely temperamental. For starters, it couldn't handle multiple copies at all. That wasted about 7 sheets of paper. It also would just not stick to the paper. Some that printed looked like some alien language.
I still need to get them professionally cut as I don't trust myself with a paper cutter. And we are per usual missing a few addresses. I also have to stick on the photos. I have a prototype, and must say it looks impressive. Much better than those over-priced ones they were selling at the book store.
Speaking of the bookstore, did you know that Barnes & Nobel College Bookstores is one of the largest privately held companies in the US? They spun off from the evil that is B&N, which is a publicly traded company. I knew about Mars (candy) company. They are actually number three on the list.
It is funny because I did a phone interview today for one of B's classmates who is doing a group project about Ethel's Chocolates. The person who interviewed me was very impressed with all I knew about chocolate, and the industry. Amazing what reading a book or two can do. I highly recommend The Emperor's of Chocolate if you either enjoy chocolate, are interested in marketing, or just like reading business history. It is a fascinating read.
I truly can't believe how close we are to the end of all this. I know I keep saying that, but really I can't stress it enough to anyone who is considering joining the ranks of MBA student (or the partner of one).
This week is really jam-packed too, which I suspect accounts for time ticking away at this speed better known as GSB time.
