black + another color

a black and tan

Being fair skinned means I bruise easily. Recently I discovered a black and blue mark on my right thigh, and another behind my left knee. The latter was reportedly pretty ugly, but thankfully I couldn't contort myself (or didn't feel like it at least) so I could see it. They don't hurt, but they do cause me to pause in alarm when I see them.

In all honesty I have no idea how I got them. I have vague recollections of bumping into something, or hitting up against a thing, but I couldn't tell you what thing or even when. It takes a few days for the bruise to show, which makes things even more disconcerting. Nothing like looking down at your leg, and wondering where the heck that came from.

The latest one is on my abdomen, right in the region of my belly button. It is gruesome. It has had bits of red, yellow and purple in addition to the black and blue. For the most part I forget it is there, and then I will see it in the mirror and freak. Again, it doesn't really hurt and I have absolutely no idea how or when exactly I obtained the bruise.

Sometimes I do wonder if these marks aren't signs of the wounds on the inside. Little reminders that all is not quite right in my world right now.
