at least it isn't squirrels

Is it just me, or are penguins the latest sales gimmick? It seems like everywhere I turn, there are penguins trying to sell me something.

On Amazon.com, the new header has a cute little penguin. It is snowing, and he looks a bit chilly. I am not sure what this has to do with books and music, but there he is. At least I think it is a boy penguin.

Honda is using a penguin to sell their new Element. It's a French penguin, which again, I am not sure what the angle is supposed to be. He is cute and witty, but I don't know that I would buy a car from him.

And my favorite, the movie Happy Feet, which is really a ploy to sell antiviral medication. No really. Read the fine print.

Maybe it has something to do with the wonky weather, but it doesn't feel like penguin season yet. It is still fall. Halloween was only a week ago. Thanksgiving is still over two weeks away. It seems a little early to be releasing the penguins. Usually around this time of year it is all about pumpkins and turkeys. Which of course, makes me wonder if there isn't a mixed message here. I would hate to see penguins on the Thanksgiving buffet.
