fixed?
I am not sure how or why, but it looks like things are working again. Maybe my contact form got some attention over at Google? It seems that they were all excited about getting Blogger Beta to go live. Just my luck that somehow my ability to ftp would go all wonky.
The strange thing is that according to what I read, it suggested that I set up a test account on the new system to see if I could ftp. That worked. Well, it acted like it worked anyway. B was trying to help me set up some space on the server when his laptop crashed in a big way. The video card went poof!
The good news is that it is still under warranty. And because it is an IBM, they will come to him. He called tech support at about 1am on Sunday morning and after punching a bunch of buttons was transferred to someone in Atlanta, Georgia.
He called back on Sunday afternoon with an update. Parts have been ordered. He has had contact with the local guy who will actually be coming here to fix things. First though he (the tech guy) has to stop at the airport to pick up the parts. He is supposed to arrive sometime tomorrow.
The only snag we had was that B gave them his cell phone number which is a 312 area code. This apparently caused problems because the phone number didn't match the location. Haven't these guys heard of number portability? Besides, people with laptops can be on the road when things go wrong, no. He was thankfully able to fix things by giving them the land line number for the house and still have them call him on his cell.
