i'm really not complaining
Thanksgiving is now only three days away. Still no sign of this turkey I am going to cook. Tonight I will probably make the cranberry sauce.
I'd really like to make some pies, but the weather really isn't pie baking weather. I think it will hit 90F again today. Now really, I am not complaining, but even for Southern California this is a tad ridiculous. In fact, these temperatures are breaking records as they are well over twenty degrees from normal for this time of year.
This time last year we were in Chicago where it had already snowed. It was so cold on Thanksgiving morning that although we lived a mere two blocks from the Thanksgiving Day Parade route, we hid under the covers and watched from B's laptop. The wind chill was numbing.
And again, I am not complaining, but when it gets unseasonably hot like this, it always makes me worry about the big E. Most of the experts seem to think that weather has nothing to do with the ground shaking, but there does seem to be a bit of history of the earth moving after one of these odd heat waves.
It is funny to watch people try and adapt to the weather. In Southern California you really don't have two sets of clothing. We stopped at Starbucks today near a group of office buildings. Many women were still wearing sweaters, light and short-sleeved, but still sweaters. The men in suits looked terribly uncomfortable.
We seemed to have found a routine for Mondays. We drive down to Irvine, take care of some business, have lunch at our favorite Japanese restaurant, stop at the library in Newport, and usually do a bit of shopping before heading home. Routine is nice, but I know this too is only temporary, along with the weather. I guess the moral is, enjoy it while you can.
