This was taken at the rose garden at the Huntington Library in San Marino, California. I love how it feels like you are peeking in on this scene -- a silent intruder snooping in the rose bushes. If you are not familiar with the Huntington, let me fill you in. The story behind the library is quite a tale. It seems that upon the death of this uncle, Huntington married his aunt (not a blood relative) to keep the fortune from being divided. It seems that his new wife preferred Paris to the suburbs of Los Angeles (at the time), and so he created this place complete with gardens and art collection to keep her in town. Talk about the things people do for love. |
